Caterpillar offers three types of Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS).CTX series for residential and light commercial applications
Caterpillar CTX Series switches are built for residential and light commercial applications requiring the dependability and ease of operation found in a power contactor switch. Voltage sensing and system control is performed via a state-of-the-art microcontroller located on the cabinet door.

The Caterpillar® CTG Series transfer switch is pre-configured for applications requiring the dependability and ease of operation found in a full-feature power contactor-type transfer switch. CTG switches are equipped with the next-generation MX150 microprocessor panel, which controls the operation and displays the status of the transfer switch’s position, timers, and available sources.

The Caterpillar® CTS Series transfer switch is configurable for complex applications and is equipped with the MX250 controller that is designed for the most demanding transfer or bypass switch applications.

All Cat Automatic Transfer Switches have mechanically held contactors; are available in 2, 3, and 4 pole versions; are UL, IEC, and CSA listed, and are available with NEMA 1, 3R, 4, 4X, and 12 enclosures. The CTG Series and CTS Series Automatic Transfer Switches meet the requirements of NFPA 110, 99, and 70.

In addition to its standard Automatic Transfer Switches, Caterpillar offers three variations on the ATS and a line of manual transfer switches.CBTS Series Open Transition Bypass Switch
The CBTS Series Bypass-Isolation Transfer Switch consists of two major modules – the automatic transfer and the bypass-isolation switch. The automatic transfer switch module is the proven CTS Series, and the bypass section is a basic CTS switch provided with a quick make/quick break manual load transfer handle and a control/interlock system consisting of both mechanical and electrical interlocks.

The purpose of a closed transition switch is to prevent the momentary outages that occur during transfer of a standard unit. This technology is not a substitute for a UPS system as it does not provide stored energy capability but rather acts in a complementary fashion. When using the CTSCT Closed Transition Transfer Switch, the overlap of the normal and alternate power sources is less than 100 milliseconds.

The CTSD provides an adjustable time delay after the opening of the closed contacts and before the closing of the open contacts for transferring large motor and/or transformer loads. This delayed transition time is ideally suited for pumping stations, sewage treatment plants, hospital X-ray equipment, or wherever the bulk of the load being controlled consists of large motors and/or transformers.
