CATERPILLAR SWITCHGEAR

When it comes to your electrical system, a slight disturbance or outage can be catastrophic. Therefore it is critical that your electrical system remains up and running 24/7. Cat® Generator Paralleling Switchgear is part of an integrated solution for optimal power generation and electrical distribution system performance.
Caterpillar Switchgear
 VERSATILITY AND SCALABILITY

The benefit of Caterpillar's vast experience in power generation is fully realized in its generator switchgear offering. Available from 480V through 15kV, Cat® switchgear provides a harmonized system solution by being able to integrate all elements of monitoring and control of a Caterpillar® generator set in a single-source package.

For integration of Caterpillar generator sets into a customer's facility, Caterpillar offers switchgear suitable for applications ranging from single standby/load management to multi-unit utility paralleling installations. In any of these cases, Caterpillar switchgear can offer remote communication capabilities for monitoring and control of your total system.

THE CAT® SWITCHGEAR PRODUCT LINE

All Cat® Switchgear products help to mitigate potential outages by providing you with access to real-time controls and information. Cat® generator sets, coupled with Cat® switchgear featuring EMCP 3.S, provide peace of mind and reliability right at your fingertips. EMCP 3.S technology is innovative, reliable and cost-effective for power generation systems in both low-and medium-voltage emergency applications.

Cat® switchgear employs an advanced, feature-rich microprocessor based control system that is combined with an easy to use touchscreen operator interface panel. The entire system can be controlled from the switchgear-mounted touchscreen, or it can be controlled/monitored from a remote site through a personal computer.

Cat® switchgear offers both standard-configurable and custom products that use EMCP 3.S.
Emergency Generator Paralleling
The EGP (Emergency Generator Paralleling) series supports paralleling on an isolated generator bus and is commonly used in conjunction with Caterpillar Automatic Transfer Switches for hospital or other applications. Download the Caterpillar EGP Switchgear product brochure at the right.
Emergency Transfer and Load Management
The XLM (Emergency Transfer and Load Management) series supports transfer between the utility source and generator bus, as well as affording capability for parallel operation with the utility for load management applications. Download the Caterpillar XLM Switchgear product brochure at the right.
Engine Paralleling and Integration Control - NEW!
Expandable and easy to configure, the EPIC system has it all: built-in capability to accept a wide range of generator set controls, and connectivity to engine-mounted circuit breakers or remote switchgear. In addition, it can be retrofitted to existing sites. Designed for use with up to ten generator sets, EPIC is the ideal choice for a broad range of low-voltage applications (from 208V through 480V), including emergency, standalone, or utility paralleling. If our configurable switchgear offerings do not fit your needs, we offer fully customized solutions.

TECHNOLOGY AND SUPPORT YOU CAN RELY ON

Downtime can cost money and, under severe situations, even cost lives. Cat switchgear has capabilities you can depend on.
Advanced Communications Capabilities
Cat switchgear is equipped with exceptional remote communications technologies, enabling you to control and monitor your engine generator sets from anywhere at anytime. Whether at home, in the office or on the road, you can access controls and information on a real-time basis and respond immediately…even control multiple facilities from a single centralized site.
High-Speed Integrated Control System
EMCP 3.S uses a redundant high-speed, industrially hardened network for system control. This essential feature ensures proper system performance under any condition.
Best-in-Class Footprint
EMCP 3.S uses fewer than one-third of the components of conventional switchgear. This translates to less wiring, a smaller footprint, higher mean time between failures and lower mean time to repair.
Integrated Digital Technology
Integrated with on-package engine control, EMCP 3.S has built-in governor, synchronizer, power factor controller and load sharing functions. Cat switchgear products do not require additional discrete components.
Advanced Power Generation Protection
Cat switchgear products perform generator-protective functions internal to the control system. With Cat switchgear, you can monitor, process, compare, display and transmit data with a high degree of precision and control, and that control translates into high reliability and functionality.
Don't compromise when it comes to your power generation or electrical distribution system.

FEATURES AND ADVANTAGES DESIGNED FOR EASY OPERATIONS

In addition to its advanced technology capabilities, Cat switchgear has state-of-the-art features that are unrivaled in the industry.
Fault Tolerance
EMCP 3.S provides maximum efficiency and reliability. With other switchgear, if a single component shuts down, the entire system may not operate. Four levels of fault tolerance are built into Cat switchgear to prevent this from happening.
Touchscreen Interface
The PowerLynx 2000/3000 color touchscreen display is the key to the system’s powerful and simple operator interface. PowerLynx 1000 technology uses similar graphical display techniques in a smaller-scale monochrome touchscreen format. The screen gives the operator an instantaneous, easily understandable view of the entire system status. This feature is unique to Caterpillar and not found in conventional, hardware-based switchgear.
Display
With EMCP 3.S, it’s simple. Graphics look exactly like the meters and gauges on conventional switchgear. At a glance, you can easily see how the system is performing, and based on real-time information, you can instantly do what’s necessary to correct or optimize system performance.
Additional advantages of Cat switchgear include less installation wiring; a smaller footprint for better utilization of available space; detailed engine and electrical reports; and UL®, NFPA, CSA® and IEEE compliance.
