NASHVILLE, — White Pine School in Jefferson County will host a Clean Energy Day on Friday, March 12 as part of the National Energy Education Development Project to educate attendees about alternative clean energy sources including wind, solar and hydropower. NEED is a nationwide program that teaches the science of energy and provides information to teachers and students about conventional and emerging energy sources.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee has again been ranked among the top states in the nation in Site Selection magazine’s annual Governor’s Cup rankings for its economic development performance in 2009. The economic development publication put the Volunteer State at No. 5, the highest ranking of any Southeastern state. The Governor’s Cup award recognizes states with the most new or expanded private-sector capital projects as tracked by publisher Conway Data Inc.’s New Plant Database. The magazine gave its top ranking to the state of Ohio, followed by Texas, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The selected communities are: Celina, Erwin, Jefferson City, Martin, Milan, Mt. Pleasant, Monterey, Paris, Selmer and Sweetwater.

NASHVILLE – Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development Matt Kisber and Commissioner of Revenue Reagan Farr today released a joint statement in the wake of Davidson County Chancellor Russell Perkins ruling the case of Coleman v. Kisber and Farr. The Chancellor ruled that TNInvestco documents sought as part of an open records filing could be withheld under Tennessee Code Annotated 4-3-730 (c) for a period of five years.

NASHVILLE – Governor Phil Bredesen and Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matt Kisber, along with officials of ClearFuels Technology Inc. and Hughes Hardwood, announced today that the two companies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a biorefinery that will convert 1,000 dry tons of wood product per day to renewable diesel or jet fuel. Hawaii-based ClearFuels will site the facility at the Hughes Hardwood wood component products manufacturing facility in Collinwood, Tenn.

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development Energy Policy Office, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Tennessee Department of Education, announced today a call for entries in an energy art competition for Tennessee second and seventh graders. The “Think Clean, Think Green, It’s in the Bag!” contest invites students to create and submit a design to be printed on a reusable shopping bag and a written paragraph explaining the meaning of their design.
